2. The common name of my mammal is: The Giant Panda

3. The classification of my mammal:

Kingdom: Animalia

Phylum: Chordata

Class: Mammalia

Order: Carnivora

Family: Ursidae

Genus: Ailuropoda

Species: A. melanoleuca

4. What are some of the animal’s physical adaptations to its environment?

A low metabolic rate allows it to survive on nutrient poor resources like bamboo.

5. What are some of the organism’s behavioral adaptations to its environment?

It avoids hills with steep slopes due to getting minimal nutrients from bamboo chutes.

6. What is the role of your organism in the food chain? Be specific about role as a producer, consumer or decomposer. If a consumer, then describe the food preferences, like herbivore, carnivore or omnivore.

The giant panda is a consumer. It has a digestive system of a carnivore but feeds mainly on bamboo chutes so gets minimal nutrients from it.

7. Describe the biome where this organism lives.

Giant pandas live in deciduous forests in the mountainous regions of central China. The types of trees you can find in these regions are broad leafed deciduous trees and some of the evergreen species.

8. Discuss the status of the species. Is it plentiful, threatened, endangered or extinct?

It is endangered because of habitat loss and poaching.

9. How do humans impact your organism? (Hot Tip: Think of the HIPPO dilem

The giant panda is impacted negatively by humans mostly because of habitat loss.

10. Identify the place(s) on the map where your organism lives. Color in the map accordingly.

11. Amazing facts:
